Walkout Basements
This simple tutorial is the foundation for ANY walkout basement build, whether it’s for a cozy suburban home or a grand mansion. Even for my largest builds, this is always my starting point!
STEP-BY-STEP
Build a Room: Place a room anywhere on your lot. The wall height will determine the basement depth, so keep this in mind!
Add a Floor Piece: Add a floor piece on top of the room and extend it to create an overhang. This overhang will help you position the room in the ground and serve as the base for the house above. The size doesn’t matter yet; you can adjust it later.
Lower the Room: Select the room, click the center arrow (as shown in the image) and lower it until the overhang sits just above the terrain. Aim for a clean alignment without a large gap or terrain indent, but don’t worry if it’s not perfect!
Create Space at the Bottom: Add a floor piece in front of the room at ground level to create space for the basement entrance.
Adjust Terrain: Use terrain tools to flatten and smooth the area around the basement. Optionally, you can add a larger floor piece for more space before smoothing the terrain.
You now have the perfect base for any walkout basement design. You can now build anything on top and adjust the size of the top and bottom sections as needed!
